Un-telligence

Un-telligence

Returning after a long break to dealing with academic texts brings back long forgotten memories from the harsh un-telligent experience I had when I tried to make summary notes from the Introduction to History of Modern Music class over a decade ago. A highlighter in my hand, an overload of eclectic information on the page, reverence towards the Academia and a complete lack of ability to comprehend and see a true horizon through all the details have generated a page 95% of which gradually grew highlighted in noisy phosphoric yellow. From amongst the highlighted surface peeked a few sentence parts, conjunctions, forgotten commas, a small closed elite group of yellow marker refugees that became highlighted by their rare non highlightedness. The great gap between the absolute reverence on my behalf towards what was written on the page and the feeling of complete un-telligence of summarizing it by marking 95% had a very humbling effect on the tender student soul, second probably only to the effect of the Gregorian chant on the devout believer who is reconfirmed of his absolute futility in comparison to the lord’s greatness while listening to the divine notes.
